Maximizing fitness while working from home
Working from home
The
advent and spread of covid-19 and its variant have necessitated that many
people stay home and work. Working from home has now become a major part of our
present reality. This reality may extend into the nearest future and is
gradually affecting the way work is done. It has its advantages so long as it does
not affect the health of the person negatively.
Fitness has both physical and mental dimensions to it. Both are very important because they enable us achieve relevant everyday jobs with energy, alertness and liveliness.
Physical fitness means the body systems are working together in such harmony that one can perform daily activities with minimum effort and yet be excited and full of life. Mental fitness means the mind is able to actively think and make reasonable judgement of things and situations. It is closely linked with perception and behavior.
The benefits
The benefits of keeping fit can be summarized as follows:
- There
is a good and relaxed feeling – mood and sleep pattern is improved
- The
heart is refreshed and reinvigorated
- Bones
are strengthened, and
- Has
a positive regulatory influence on blood pressure, cholesterol and weight.
- Make the home-work environment ergonomically friendly;
- Turn
everyday activity to an opportunity to keeping fit;
- Avoid sitting for too long - Stand up and walk around for at least five minutes once-in-a-given time, say after every hour;
- Schedule certain times to be with family and loved ones and friends for face-to-face chats and get-together;
- Find a fitness center to visit occasionally;
- Feed your mind with positive and progressive thoughts
- Eat good food and drink enough water; and
- Do all of the above as regularly as possible.
